Fisherman's Wharf Planning Process & Reccomendations
In November 2002, The Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) and the San Francisco Port Commission formed a joint Fisherman’s Wharf Planning Committee to develop planning recommendations for the Fisherman’s Wharf area of the San Francisco waterfront. The BCDC/Port joint Planning Committee sponsored 16 public meetings to solicit public input, discuss issues and develop Fisherman’s Wharf planning recommendations that address open space and public access, traffic circulation, and parking. The attached report presents and discusses the Committee’s recommendations, the public process through which they evolved, and background information on the analysis and issues addressed.

On June 3, 2004 the BCDC Commission considered and accepted the Planning Committee’s recommendations. On August 31, 2004, at 3:00 p.m. at Pier 1, the Port Commission will review and consider the recommendations of the Planning Committee. The Commission will also be asked to consider sending the Committee recommendations to the Mayor’s Office for further analysis, public review and action by other agencies of the City and County of San Francisco that also have a stake in the future of the Wharf. Also, the Port and BCDC are exploring whether amendments to BCDC policies may better facilitate pier repair in the Wharf area.

Please take the time to review the Planning Committee Recommendations and consider attending the Port Commission hearing on August 31. Should you require further information about the Committee Recommendations please contact Dan Hodapp at the Port at 274-0625 or email at dan.hodapp@sfport.com. Thank you for your participation in the Fisherman’s Wharf planning process.
