Meet the Commissioners

Rodney A. Fong, President

photo of Rodney A. FongRodney A. Fong was elected President of the San Francisco Port Commission in  January 2010. He also served as President of the San Francisco Port Commission in 2009. He served as Vice President of the San Francisco Port Commission in 2008.  He was appointed to the Port Commission by Mayor Gavin Newsom in November of 2006.

Mr. Fong is a native San Franciscan and a third generation operator/owner of the world famous Wax Museum at Fisherman’s Wharf, where he also serves as President and Director of Marketing. Mr. Fong has been active and held office in several tourism and travel related organizations including Board President, Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District, President, Fisherman’s Wharf Merchants Association, Board Member, San Francisco Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Chairman of the California Travel Industry Association and Board Member-Lifetime Seat, California Chamber of Commerce, to name a few. Mr. Fong is the Director of the Fong Family Foundation, which is a philanthropic organization that benefits many worthwhile social services programs in the City such as On Lok Senior Health Services, Self-Help for the elderly, Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation and the San Francisco Fire Department Flame Youth Fishing Program. Mr. Fong’s term expires in May 2014.


Stephanie Shakofsky, Vice President

photo of Stephanie ShakofskyStephanie Shakofsky was elected Vice President of the San Francisco Port Commission in January 2010. She also served as Vice President of the San Francisco Port Commission in 2009. Commissioner Shakofsky was appointed to the San Francisco Port Commission by Mayor Gavin Newsom and approved by the Board of Supervisors in April 2007. She is the Executive Director of the Center for Creative Land Recycling (CCLR or “see clear”) a not for profit organization focused on creating sustainable communities by identifying and implementing responsible patterns of land use and development. CCLR’s mission is to encourage and facilitate land recycling in ways that revitalize urban areas, discourage urban sprawl, and conserve greenspace. Ms. Shakofsky began her career as a research hydrologist at the U.S. Geological Survey, where for six years she worked in the contaminant hydrology program advancing the science of contaminant fate and transport. She has also served as a technical analyst for the California State Legislature, providing analysis of environmental regulation and legislative reports on topical issues including the state of brownfield redevelopment in California. Ms. Shakofsky has over a decade of experience working with government agencies, community groups and municipalities to address issues of land-use and natural resource protection. Ms. Shakofsky is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, and San Jose State University with a Master of Science degree in Geology, emphasis in Contaminant Hydrology. Ms. Shakofsky’s term expires in May 2010.


Kimberly Brandon, Port Commissioner

photo of Kimberly K. Brandon Kimberly K. Brandon served as President of the San Francisco Port Commission in 2008.  Ms. Brandon is a native San Franciscan who has dedicated a career to social justice and economic empowerment.

She is the first African-American woman to serve on the San Francisco Port Commission. The Port Commission overseas seven and one half miles of the most expensive real estate in the country that includes maritime, commercial and retail developments. Amongst its tenants are AT&T Park, the Ferry Building and Fisherman’s Wharf.  Ms. Brandon was appointed by Mayor Willie L. Brown, Jr. in August 1997; she was elected President in 2000, 2001 and 2008. She also has served six terms as Vice President.

Ms. Brandon has been actively involved in the Port's city-wide community outreach efforts. She is responsible for spearheading the Southern Waterfront Advisory Committee (SWAC), so that the communities in the Southeast portion of San Francisco would be included in the Port's plans for development of the Southern Waterfront.  Ms. Brandon also has promoted diversity in staff hiring and contracting to ensure that the Port is representative of the City and County of San Francisco.

She has been instrumental in fostering international trade relations with sister ports including participation in delegations to the People's Republic of China, Vietnam, Argentina, Chile, Ghana and Mexico.

Ms. Brandon has also mapped a flourishing career in the field of financial services. Currently she serves as Senior Vice President and Wealth Advisor with Morgan Stanley, where she oversees over $200 million in assets of high net worth individuals, foundations, endowments and public entities. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley she had a successful stint as Vice President and Private Client Manager with the Private Bank of Bank of America.

Ms. Brandon is a graduate of San Francisco State University. She has completed Cannon Financials Certified Wealth Strategist Mastery Program and holds the National Association of Securities Dealers Series 7 and 66 licenses.

Ms. Brandon is very active in the San Francisco community with involvement in civic and political causes. She spends numerous hours serving the community on various non profit boards and is currently active as a board trustee o f the Museum of African Diaspora, PACT, Inc. and The Young Scholars Program.

Ms. Brandon's term expires in May 2013.


 Michael Hardeman, Commissioner

photo of Michael Hardeman Mr. Hardeman has served on the Port Commission since 1994, when he was appointed by then-Mayor Frank Jordan. Mr. Hardeman served as President of the Commission in 1996, 1997, 2002 and 2003. He served as Vice President of the Commission from January 2004 until January 2006.  Prior to serving on the Port Commission, Mr. Hardeman served on the City's Human Rights Commission and Public Utilities Commission. Active in labor leadership for several years, Mr. Hardeman is involved with, and on the boards of, numerous Bay Area Labor and Building Trades Councils, several nonprofit organizations and other civic organizations. Mr. Hardeman's term expires in May 2010.

 


Ann Lazarus, Commissioner

Ann LazarusMs. Lazarus was appointed to the San Francisco Port Commission by Mayor Gavin Newsom and confirmed by the Board of Supervisors in May 2004. In January 2006, she was elected President of the Port Commission. She served as President until February 2008. Ms. Lazarus is the executive director of the Fort Mason Center. From late 1991 until the end of 2004, she was the Chief Executive Officer of Mount Zion Health Fund, a grant making public charity located in San Francisco. Ms. Lazarus has extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. She has been a corporate planner and Director of Investor Relations for Pacific Gas and Electric Company, and been associated with an independent energy consulting firm. Ms. Lazarus has been the director of a health resource center, as well as a program consultant to several mayoral administrations. Ms. Lazarus holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and MBA degree from Stanford University, and a Masters in Urban Studies from Occidental College, granted in conjunction with a Coro Foundation Fellowship. She has had leadership, development and financial involvement with numerous public service organizations, including Congregation Emanu-El, Alumi Consulting Team of the Stanford Graduate School of Business, the Institute for Nonprofit Organization Management of the University of San Francisco, the Refugee Committee of the Private Industry Council, and the San Francisco Human Services Network, of which she was the co-founder. She has also served as the chair of the trustees of a multi-employer retirement plan with assets over $400 million, and has provided fund management counsel to multiple organizations. Ms. Lazarus' term expires in May 2012.
