Pier 50 Earthquake Improvement Project

The proposed Project seeks to improve earthquake and flood resilience of the Port’s Maintenance Facility currently located on Pier 50.  Pier 50 is among the largest finger piers in San Francisco and was built in two sections, original shoreside section with sheds A & B in 1923 and Bayside extension with sheds C & D in 1946.  The Mission Rock outcropping sits below the Bayside end. Port Maintenance occupies Shed D, yard space, and berthing along the south apron.  The Pier also houses numerous maritime businesses and large vessel berths including tugs and MARAD ships.  Besides day-to-day functions, Port Maintenance is critical to support disaster response and recovery across the waterfront.  Following an earthquake, Port Maintenance will support inspections and repairs needed to re-open facilities, keep the public safe, and facilitate recovery.
